wow! there has been a lot of crazy shit going down in the art world as of late, and i’m not even talking about any of the oddities coming out of Art Basel, Miami. there’s been reports of censorship, criminal activity, persecution, protests,  even naziism, none of which i care to go into any detail on here. but i will sum it all up with a few quick sentences written in no particular order or sense of cohesion. an aging french electrician and his dead cousin suddenly decide to share their trove of over 271 unseen picasso’s with the rest of the world. saint banksy of britian donates $127,000 to members of the russian art collective known as Voina who have been arrested and persecuted by government officials. the ever spiteful religious right/republican party/fuckdicks succeeded in having a work of video art censored and removed from an exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. the art world responds. graffiti arts advocate Jeffrey Deitch and MOCA decide to white wash over a commissioned Blu mural, (see above), just as the paint was drying. again, the art world responds. shit hit’s the fan as england prepares to cut off all funding to uk’s art colleges. i’ll say that again: their cutting funding for art colleges to zero. students speak out and fuck shit up, as well as manage to steal a bit of the spotlight from Susan Philipsz as she wins this years Turner Prizethe Wikileaks cables reveal how the u.s tried to trade sunken gold for nazi loot with spain. keep it coming guys! the European Commission declares that works by Dan Flavin and Bill Viola are in fact not art at all. and finally, a 2000 year old roman statue washes up on an israeli shore. so that’s that, and if it’s not who cares, this was already too much to mention. next time just read the news yourself…
